FAQs

Will the ring turn my finger green?

Rings made from silver coins will very rarely stain fingers, the vast majority of people wear silver jewellery of a variety of "fineness" with no problem at all. The fineness of each of the coins used to make our rings is detailed in each listing.

Rings made from bronze or copper can stain your finger, however, for an up-charge we can provide a custom fitted silver liner to prevent this. This will protect against staining from the inside of the ring but cannot guarantee protection from staining entirely, of adjacent fingers for example.

Do you do custom orders?

Absolutely. In fact, most of our orders are one-off custom orders designed in collaboration with the customer to fit a specific brief. We want to make a very special and bespoke piece of jewellery for you: you may have seen styles we have used but have a different coin in mind, or maybe you are searching for a specific date, country or material. In any case, we would be more than happy to talk over options with you.

How long do orders take to process?

Each ring is crafted from scratch, so it can take up to 7 days during busier periods, though in most cases your ring will be finished in just a few. Shipping will depend on where you are in the world and the efficiency of your local postal service.

Can I get my ring engraved?

Engraving is not something we have the facilities to do ourselves, however, we can request the skills of an often used and trusted engraver to make your ring extra special - John Dearden of Manchester.

Prices vary depending on the job and we always charge the engraving at cost (which is usually in the region of £30-£40). The price John charges is the only additional price you will pay and costs will be clearly communicated before any purchase is committed to.

Lead time will depend on how busy John is at the time of order, but expect it to add a couple of weeks onto the overall production of the ring (with shipping each way between John and myself).

How do I care for my ring?

Different metals will patina and tarnish differently over time. In order to prevent any jewellery tarnishing we advise not getting it wet or exposing it to chemicals, so removing it before showering, washing your hands, etc.

If your ring is polished then a jewellery cloth will help bring back the shine it once had. If your ring was antiqued and it is looking somewhat faded then you are free to return it to us for a “service” so we can reapply the patina and make your ring look brand new again: this is just one of the lifetime benefits that comes with buying a ring from us.

How can I find the size of my finger?

The best and most accurate way to size your finger is to have it sized by a local jeweller. Failing that we can send you a free sizer, available in our shop: the cost is £5 but you will then get a discount of £5 from any future order that you place.

If your final ring doesn’t fit just right you can send it back to us where we will tweak the sizing to make it perfect for you.

Can I provide the coin for you to ring?

So long as the coin is suitable to be turned into a ring then, yes! There are a few circumstances where we would not be able to ring a coin for you:

  • coins that contain nickel (see our Policies page for details of why)

  • any coin that is current (as it is not legal to do so)

  • any coin that is of poor condition (for example, it may have been buried in the ground)

Other than that, we would be more than happy to consult with you to turn your coin into an extra special piece of jewellery, just contact us to begin the process.

What if my question isn’t here?
