Returns Policy

We have a 30 days returns policy if you are not completely happy with your purchase, but we want you to love the piece of jewellery we have crafted for you so we will always seek to put things right if something is wrong. If you have simply changed your mind within 30 days you can request a refund by contacting us no questions asked (though constructive feedback is always welcome), so long as they are in the original condition they were sent in.

Our jewellery is robust, but sometime items may get damaged in transit or unexpectedly through normal wear. If this is the case then we strive to fix or replace them, just get in touch so we can work to put things right.

Materials Policy

Nickel

We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously and as such, we comply to the full extent of the law regarding the sale of our jewellery. None of our items which are in prolonged contact with the skin (rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings) contain any nickel so as to comply with the EU Nickel Directive. As a result there are many coins we simply cannot use because they are made of a copper-nickel mix (sometimes referred to by some makers as “cupronickel” or “clad” or “German silver”) which would not be suitable for wearing as jewellery.

There are some cufflinks that we sell that do contain nickel. This is regarded to be safe because cufflinks don’t come into contact with the skin and the only part with any nickel content (if any) would be the coin: the swivel backs we use are all chrome- or brass-plated copper.

Hallmarking

We have full permission from the Treasury of the United Kingdom to alter coins for the purpose of art and jewellery. Most of the coins that we use are silver in content (sterling or otherwise) and have a variety of attributes which means that we can sell them as “precious metal without a hallmark”:

  • Due to our production process and style, most items we produce weigh less than 7.78g (exemption on page 3)

  • The coins we use are predominantly minted before 1950 (exemption on page 3)

  • Coins from the United Kingdom and other territories do not require a hallmark (exemption on page 14)

As such, our rings are sold without a hallmark as standard. If you would like any more information as to where we source our coins for peace of mind, then please get in touch with us for more information.

To fulfil your order, you must provide us with certain information, such as your name, email address, postal address, payment information, and the details of the product that you’re ordering. You may also choose to provide me with additional personal information (for a custom order of jewellery, for example), if you contact us directly.

Why We Need Your Information and How We Use It...

We rely on a number of legal bases to collect, use, and share your information, including:

+ as needed to provide my services, such as when we use your information to fulfil your order, to settle disputes, or to provide customer support;

+ when you have provided your affirmative consent, which you may revoke at any time, such as by signing up for my mailing list;

+ if necessary to comply with a legal obligation or court order or in connection with a legal claim, such as retaining information about your purchases if required by tax law; and

+ as necessary for the purpose of my legitimate interests, if those legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights or interests, such as providing and improving our services. We use your information to provide the services you requested and in our legitimate interest to improve our services.

Information Sharing and Disclosure...

Information about our customers is important to our business. We share your personal information for very limited reasons and in limited circumstances, as follows:

+ Service providers. We engage certain trusted third parties to perform functions and provide services to my shop, such as delivery companies. We will share your personal information with these third parties, but only to the extent necessary to perform these services.

+ Business transfers. If we sell or merge my business, we may disclose your information as part of that transaction, only to the extent permitted by law.

+ Compliance with laws. We may collect, use, retain, and share your information if we have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to: (a) respond to legal process or to government requests; (b) enforce my agreements, terms and policies; (c) prevent, investigate, and address fraud and other illegal activity, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, and safety of my customers, or others.

Data Retention...

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide you with my services and as described in our Privacy Policy. However, we may also be required to retain this information to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, to resolve disputes, and to enforce our agreements. We generally keep your data for the following time period: 4 years.

Transfers of Personal Information Outside the EU...

We may store and process your information through third-party hosting services in the US and other jurisdictions. As a result, we may transfer your personal information to a jurisdiction with different data protection and government surveillance laws than your jurisdiction. If we are deemed to transfer information about you outside of the EU, we rely on Privacy Shield as the legal basis for the transfer, as both Google and Dropbox are Privacy Shield certified as well as GDPR compliant.

Your Rights...

If you reside in certain territories, including the EU, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. While some of these rights apply generally, certain rights apply only in certain limited cases. There rights are described below:

+ Access. You may have the right to access and receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the contact information below.

+ Change, restrict, delete. You may also have rights to change, restrict our use of, or delete your personal information. Absent exceptional circumstances (like where we are required to store data for legal reasons) we will generally delete your personal information upon request.

+ Object. You can object to (i) our processing of some of your information based on our legitimate interests and (ii) receiving marketing messages from me after providing your express consent to receive them. In such cases, we will delete your personal information unless we have compelling and legitimate grounds to continue using that information or if it is needed for legal reasons.

+ Complain. If you reside in the EU and wish to raise a concern about our use of your information (and without prejudice to any other rights you may have), you have the right to do so with your local data protection authority.

For purposes of EU data protection law, for Gin Coin Jewellery, Josh Wood is the data controller of your personal information. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact him at josh@gincoinjewellery.com.
