Portuguese Escudo Cufflinks - Coin Jewellery
These coin cufflinks are made from an old Portuguese 2.5 escudos coin here in the UK. They show the Portuguese arms, stars and denomination.
The "escudo" was the currency of Portugal before their ascention to the EU, the symbol used looks very similar to that of the US dollar. These coins are perfect for professional looking, unique cufflinks.
The cufflinks are antiqued with the details polished and domed to give the piece some depth. The original coins were made from copper-nickel so the details have a bright silver shine when polished.
Having some element of copper content these polished domes will gradually develop a natural patina as they are handled, a high shine can be maintained by using a jewellery cloth. These cufflinks have been given a very thin coating of clear lacquer to help preserve the look.
The cufflinks are approximately 19mm in diameter with a sturdy swivel backing to secure the cuffs of your shirt.
